Welcome to South Church!
Wherever you are on life’s journey
YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
At South Congregational Church,
United Church of Christ,
an Open and Affirming Congregation!
We are pleased that you have found our web site and hope you will find it a helpful way to get to know our church. Our doors are open wide to all those seeking to find a safe, but invigorating place for spiritual life, growth, friendship and service.
On Sunday morning, you will find that you are surrounded by people just like you - people filled with hopes and fears, joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses. Our common thread is that we are all committed to growing in our faith and letting our faith propel our actions in this world.
Perhaps your life is less than perfect. This may be a hard year employment-wise. Maybe you don’t have as much money in the bank as you need. Maybe you’re sick, grieving, on the brink of divorce, waiting for news from a loved one overseas… We want you to know that God reaches out for you… your hurts, your broken heart, your failings, your need. If you are in the dark in any way, Christ wants to be the light that will guide you back home.
Come and help us sing to our youth as they depart during worship for Sunday School, singing, This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!
Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine!
Rev. Suzanne Personette
"The light shines in the darkness and the darkness does not overcome it." ~ John 1:5

Directions & Parking
South Church is at the south end of Main Street, across from Union Park (the South Green) and across from the YMCA. Parking is available behind the blue house at 21 Pleasant St, and on the street. Parking spaces with meters on the street are free on Sundays.
Inclement Weather Policy
While it is our intention to hold a service every Sunday, it is important to put the safety of our Congregation, Minister and Staff first. In the event of inclement weather, the Minister in collaboration with the Council president (or other member of the executive committee if the president is not available) will make a decision as to whether the worship service or other scheduled event should be held. The decision will be made at least 90 minutes in advance of the beginning of the service.
When considering whether a service or event should be cancelled, the Minister and President will take into consideration official notifications such as city parking bans, driving warnings from governor, or weather.gov statements urging people not to travel.
If services are cancelled, notice will be available through:
- Television channels WFSB and NBC
- Radio Station WTIC-1080AM
- All-church email
- Facebook, Twitter and other social media
- A message on the church answering machine
- A message on the church website www.sochurchct.com
