Education for Children and Youth Sunday School takes place during worship, except on Communion Sunday when children are encouraged to partake in the sacrament with their families. All Sundays, Senior High youth are encouraged to attend worship and Adult Education. In past years we have used such programs as the Mustard Seed Series, a Sunday School curriculum developed here in Connecticut. Our dedicated Sunday School teachers, who teach on a year- or half-year basis, use such series as a guide and often add arts and crafts projects and other activities based on the liturgical season or theme in worship. Below is a sampling of different biblically-based themes that may come up in the course of a year. 1-2: The church family, fear and security, friendship, thankfulness, caring for others, how prayer helps us, and trust and faith in God. 3-4: Pride and boastfulness, jealousy, rivalry, Jesus' resurrection, courage, and leadership. 5-6: The meaning of the Ten Commandments, sin, freedom in Jesus Christ, bravery, Jesus' mission to the poor, and choices and decisions. 7 and up: Self-image, call to discipleship, issues of power, commitment, new understandings of God. The 3,4 and Kindergarten class uses the Jubilee Sunday school series.
Programs for youth grade 6 - 12 are held after worship, some Sunday evenings, and other times during the week depending on the program.
We have a SAFE CHURCH policy, whereby you can be assured that your child will be safe here. We require at least two adults be present in all classrooms with children and do not allow children to be unattended while in our building. |
