 The South Church Vision Statement

Approved 2/17/02 by a congregational meeting

South Church is a Christian community in the Congregational tradition.

In the spirit of Christ, we welcome men and women of diverse backgrounds, abilities, beliefs, races and sexual orientation.  We value the gifts and respond to the needs of young and old.

Together, we seek God's presence and grace, the amazing power of the Holy Spirit, and the courage to be vulnerable to God's calling.

We respond to our beliefs through worship, music and the arts, study, fellowship and service.

Following the example of Jesus Christ, we are committed to stewardship, action, and leadership in our church and the Greater Middletown community, and to the church's wider mission.

With God's guidance and our commitment, this vision will become reality.

The South Church Vision Statement was approved by a Congregational Meeting after a church-wide discussion that lasted over two years. The fruits of the vision statement and soul-searching discussion it inspired are just beginning to be realized. We have taken simple steps to make sure we continue to welcome newcomers into the church in the spirit of Jesus Christ, especially those who may feel excluded from the wider society because of their race, sexual orientation, physical disability, or any other reason. We believe Jesus is calling us to be welcoming in this way. We seek to live up to this statement in our worship and in our own lives.
