Youth Group and Confirmation

The teenage years can be turbulent, and we seek to make South Church a safe place for our youth to wrestle with important questions and learn to appreciate the life-enriching wisdom in the Bible.

South Church participates with First Church, UCC Middletown in a joint confirmation processs. In addition to the confirmation "Initiates" program, the two churches also collaborate on a "pre-Initiates" program for the next younger group.

South Church also runs a Senior High youth group, a collection of energetic kids and leaders. The idea of youth group is to encourage emotional and spiritual development with other youth, independent of parents. At least, that's the adult version. From a teen's point of view, youth group is a time to get to know kids your own age, talk about stuff you might not want to with your parents, talk about stuff you might not want to talk about at all, and at other times have a lot of fun and goof off.

Events in past years have included church lock-ins, cooking meals together, skating, skiing, doing social projects, and performing skits in worship. We talk frankly about dating, sex, peer pressure, growing up, and what God has to do with all of this!
